American Handbook of the Daguerrotype by S. D. Humphrey

I found this book titled American Hand Book of the Daguerreotype by S. D. Humphrey. This is a fun period resource of daguerreotype photography. It covers the entire process of producing photographs.

Remember, if you do any of these older processes, such as this one using cyanide, that you face danger and potentially death. Make sure you keep yourself safe by using proper safety precautions in material handling and ventilation.

Since this is book on Project Gutenberg, you can use this book as you wish. Also, you can read it online by choosing the HTML link or if you’d like to download it to your kindle or other reader, you can choose the appropriate link for your device.

Making of Daguerreotype by Takashi Arai

Making of Daguerreotype by Takashi Arai from Takashi Arai on Vimeo.

I found this video showing photographer Takashi Arai making a Daguerreotype.

This was in a discussion on APUG http://www.apug.org/forums/forum192/102298-modern-daguerreotype.html

His lab looks well equipped with a hood and wood fixtures to handle the sensitization and development process.

This particular process is hazardous and expensive but it is beautiful.
