Wet plate camera – smallest in the world?

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Could this be the world’s smallest wet plate camera? Well, if not, it’s still very cool.

This miniature wet plate camera takes 1/2″ square plate photos.

The article shows this beauty as well as a picture taken with it.

Large Format Camera Construction Video – Walker Titan SF 4×5

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

I thought this was an interesting video of how a very modern view camera is made. I’m glad to see manufacturers still keeping this alive with the onslaught of the digital age. Large format and film are still my absolute favorite combination. Check out the Walker web site at http://www.walkercameras.com/

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

If you’ve ever wondered how to make ground glass for your camera building projects or if you have one you need to replace on a restoral, here’s a nice little article on www.apug.org showing how to make your own ground glass.

Video of a 4×5 camera project – and some plans to build it

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

I found this video of a 4×5 camera that someone built. Looks nice. Though not nearly as rigid as my super graphic.

The only thing that makes this more challenging is that the 4×5 camera construction manual is in Italian. Hold it. Don’t go. It can be translated with google’s translation tool.

Very Cool Homemade SLR

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I was tooling around in APUG and found a link to this camera. I thought this was awesome.

I admire people who build their own cameras. It might take time away from taking photographs, but it makes the experience uniquely yours.

This is some real dedication of time and knowledge to the hobby.

Here he basically shows How to Build a 35mm SLR

I know I’ll never get around to building a 35mm SLR, but I’m happy I found this one.

Large format is another matter altogether. That’s next year’s project. I’ll do that as soon as I make a bunch of cabinetry for the house.

How to make your own camera bellows

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

I found a few links on making a camera bellows. I need to make one (or two) at some point. So many cameras so little time. So I started adding more and more links and ended up on Jon Grepstad’s page and he has them all already.

So much for originality. Do yourself a favor, check out Jon Grepstad’s camera builders resource page

Anyway, here are the links I was putting together along with the ones I shamelessly filled in from Jon’s site.

Here are other bellows resources n ebay.

Online video series of how to build a 4×5 wooden pinhole camera

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

If you’ve ever wanted to build a 4×5 pinhole camera from scratch, here’s a set of online videos showing how to make one. I have not worked my way through the process yet, but this is another project that I want to do. It looks like a nice way to have fun with some simple woodworking and photography.

This looks pretty easy. You’ll need a film holder or two or three:

For the holder, you’ll need some appropriate sheet film.
