Video of how to get Canon EOS Full-Frame Infinity Focus w/Minolta MC-Rokkor PF 58/1.4 lens.

This ends up being more of a metal working video than a photography video, but I thought it was interesting.

This video shows how to machine the rear element of a Minolta 58/1.2 to allow it to work in a Canon full frame body like and EOS 5D Mark II without having the mirror strike the rear element.

He gives a good explanation of what he is doing and you can see how he does the process on his mini lathe.

One other nice thing about this video: It’s an example of shooting video using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a 42mm adapter to use other classic glass. He used a Kiron 24mm f/2 and Pentax Super Takumar 55/1.8. I’ll have more examples of 42mm adapter video in another post.

Leica S2, M9, Summilux, Blog… Whew – There’s a lot going on in Leica Land

OK, so the post on the Leica S2 really got me thinking about digital Leica goodness. I was thinking that the S2 is beautiful and big but the Leica M9 is really much more my size.

Anyway, I was looking around and I saw that a new Summilux version is available. In this article, LEICA announced the update of its Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH.

Other new Leica goodness includes their new Leica Blog. I’ll be reading.

Nice video showing how Canon makes its camera lenses

Here’s a pretty nice three-part video of how Canon makes its camera lenses. To me, this is required viewing no matter what brand camera you shoot or even if you’re just interested in the science of glass making. It shows Canon’s process of mixing and heating the raw materials to make glass, then the machining of the glass and assembling the lenses. I can understand why big glass is so expensive.
