Videos of John Shaw the Nature Photographer

I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything about John Shaw here in the past. He was extremely influential to me in my late teens and 20s. He published Closeups in Nature, the Nature Photographer’s Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques, and Focus on Nature.

I devoured those books and my wife and I spent all of our time hiking with my Minolta and a Bogen tripod. Those books caused me to get extension tubes, focusing rails, and really get active in nature photography and macro photography.

Anyway, here’s a video of John Shaw talking some about his digital photography, Nikon cameras and lenses, and his workflow.

Interview with Andreas Feininger

Here is an excellent 4 part interview with Andreas Feininger. He discusses his experimental photography, his use of telephoto lenses, a comparison of art and painting, his minimal photography of people, and nature photography.

Video about Eliot Porter – the great Nature Photographer

My first exposure to Eliot Porter was through the photography magazines of the 80s. I was totally blown away. He was my favorite color photographer.

Once again, I’m indebted to Tom Johnston for placing this on youtube. Eliot Porter: A Look Back is a short two part video about Eliot Porter. It includes some footage of Beaumont Newhall reflecting on Porter’s work and Porter’s son reading from his books.

I also have to include a link to Beaumont Newhall on Amazon He was a great art historian and photographer.
