Video Documentary of Imogen Cunningham with her own commentary

This is a treat. It’s called Portrait of Imogen. It’s a wonderful little documentary in which the only spoken voice is that of Imogen Cunningham. She talks of her family, Edward Weston, Alfred Stieglitz, Martha Graham, Dorothea Lange, and her life in photography. Anybody interested in the history of photography must watch this. Excellent videos.

Videos on the History of Photography with Beaumont Newhall

Here’s a three part video on photographer, historian, curator, and professor Beaumont Newhall. This video is as much about Newhall as it is on photography. It initially talks about Newhall, but moves on to his commentary on the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Alfred Stieglitz. It gives a taste of the importance of Newhall in the recognition and development of photography as an art form.

Ansel Adams Interview

I found a multi part video interview of Ansel Adams. This includes segments watching Ansel Adams work. This is well worth watching for any photographer.

Ansel Adams talks about becoming a photographer after seeing pictures by Paul Strand. He talks about some of his pictures and how they were taken, how photography differs from painting, black and white versus color photography, and several other topics.

What did Ansel Adams think about electronic imaging? Watch the video and find out.

One rare treat is seeing Adams’ personal art gallery in his home.
