Canon EOS 7D camera features and videos

Canon is upping the ante on Digital SLRs. The new Canon EOS 7D is an 18 megapixel camera with 8 FPS continuous shooting thanks to dual digic 4 processors. That’s 18 megapixels at 8 FPS . Ya gotta love it.

This camera also has a 19 point all cross-type AF sytem with 63 zone dual-layer metering sensor. This comes in a magnesium body with a 150,000 cycle shutter.

Also, thanks to the dual Digic 4 processors, it will record HD video at full 1080p resolution at 24, 25 and 30 fps.

This camera sits between the EOS 50D and the EOS 5D Mark II.

I want one of these now. This is a very capable looking system with a great price point. Here are some quick shortcuts to keep checking for its availability.

Video of photograph collector Thomas Kempland and a link to his web site

This is a good little story about a guy who is a photograph collector who ended up with a collection of photographs by J.R. Eike.

This is from KETC in St. Louis. The show is “Living in St. Louis” and the segment by Anne-Marie Berger is “Glass Plate Photographs”.

I liked the show. The only thing that drove me nuts was the nonsense mentioning that luckily he could use his digital scanner instead of a darkroom. Gag.

More important than the video is the web site where he has pictures that document St. Louis in the early 1900s. Great stuff. Here is the web site of Thomas Kempland and has glass plate collection

Video Cameras

A relative called about the last blog post and asked about video cameras.

My most recent camera is a Canon HV-20. This has been replaced by the HV-30 and some other models.

The beauty of the HV-20 and HV-30 is that they still use tape. Tape is great because you have a backup mechanism built into the camera. Shoot it, download it to the computer, and pack the tape away. Tape last a long time and it’s good to have backups.

The downfall of tape is that it’s another thing to have around. We’ll see how long cameras are available in this format, though.

A lot of people have switched to cameras with digital storage. But, I like having tape backups. Also, editing support has taken a while to develop for these and compression was bad when I last looked.
