YouTube Video of George Hurrell’s work

George Hurrell was probably the most famous of the Hollywood movie studio photographers. He made photographs of stars usually using very contrasty lighting.

Not being a movie buff, if I didn’t know the subject in some of these pictures, I still knew that the person was a star. The person was obviously a star because only the stars had pictures like those. The style was unmistakable.

Hurrell had amazing lighting technique. His photography may actually be one of the reasons why I have a nice (but hot) set of Mole Richardson and LTM Pepper tungsten lights instead of modern, cool fluorescent lights. I use them in my videos and in my photography.

Photography Site of the Day – CameraLeather.com

Today’s site is CameraLeather.com. I have to say that I haven’t used them, but I’ve seen favorable mentions of their coverings on the web. Some of the leathers are very nice. All of my cameras are in great shape so I don’t need to recover them.

Here’s their example of installing new leather on a Leica M.

Some of their sample cameras are fantastic. Check out the leather covers and then look at the supported cameras to envision how yours might look.

Photography Site of the Day – Graflex.org

Graflex.org has information about Graflex cameras such as my Super Graphic as well as all the other Graflex models, such as the Anniversary and Crown graphics. The jewels of the site are the Technical Information, Speed Graphic FAQ, Articles, Cameras, and the Help Board. The Help Board is a useful discussion forum. Get familiar with your back button because there is a great amount of material on this site, but the navigation is a little lacking. Navigation issues aside, this site is worth many hours of study.
